PINNACE CIGARETTE CARDS

During 1920 a cigarette company joined up with "Pinnace" to issue a football photo card of a player in with each packet of cigarettes.

All clubs were featured and City were no different having 15 players represented in the series. Some others are classed as being Manchester City but they are actually with there old club or had left City and were in other clubs colours. The value of these are made that much more interesting by what size they are - the smallest size are to scale as shown opposite. To obtain a cabinet (postcard) size 25 of the small size had to be collected. The medium size which measures 2 X 2 of the smallest size you had to collect 5 of these to obtain a cabinet size, thus as you can imagine a cabinet sized photo is quite rare. Also in exchange for 100 small size you got a photo of one of the league teams that were available - if anyone knows if City were one of these please let me know.

The price scale of the pinnace cards are as follows:

Small size - £5/£7

Medium size - £15/£20

Large size (cabinet/postcard) - £70

The list of the City players represented with their numbers are listed below -
